Representatives from Riverside Health Care Facilities Inc. were on hand at the 20th annual Strawberry Social in Emo on Friday to honour the Emo and District Hospital Auxiliary.
“Thanks to all members for the outstanding dedication to your local hospital and also to health care in the Rainy River District,” expressed Larry Cousineau, chair for the Riverside Foundation for Health Care.
Riverside CEO Wayne Woods echoed his sentiments, congratulating the group on their 20th anniversary.
Cousineau noted the Foundation was established in 1997 and since that time over $50,000 has been donated by the Emo Hospital Auxiliary.
The group has offered up $20,000 to “Care Close to Home” and most recently a $25,000 commitment to the “Just Imagine” campaign for a CT scanner.
And the total amount donated in their 20 years is well over $100,000.
“From medical equipment like a whirlpool tub purchased last year for the Emo Hospital to volunteering to ensure the cafeteria operates every day, the Auxiliary is an instrumental part of health care in the Rainy River District,” he added.
He presented a plaque to auxiliary members Cecilia McComb and Chris Hartry, who were two of the original members of the group.
“It was really special,” voiced co-secretary Bernice Campbell following the presentation. “We’re just proud that we’ve been able to be in the cafeteria because really is a help to everyone in the manor.”
She explained they do a lot of fundraising events such as teas, dinners, raffles, and the Strawberry Social.
“We had a good turnout—everyone was really receptive,” she added, citing they even made more money this year at the annual event than the did last year.
“We wish you continued success from another 20 years,” Cousineau voiced.
