Hoshizaki to be new school board director

It’s all but official–Warren Hoshizaki will be the new director of education for the Rainy River District Board of Education.
John McLeod, the current acting director, confirmed yesterday that only thing left to officially make Hoshizaki the director is a vote at the next board meeting Dec. 1.
Hoshizaki was with the Bluewater District School Board near Port Elgin, just north of Toronto, where he had been serving as a superintendent.
“His meeting was last Tuesday [for his resignation] so it’s all approved there,” McLeod said. “Everything is set.”
“We’re each agreed on the contract,” echoed board chair Gord McBride. “Everything is settled now.”
The public school board found itself without a director earlier this summer after the abrupt departure of Wayne McAndrew, who had been appointed interim director when the former Fort Frances-Rainy River Board of Education amalgamated with the Atikokan one.
John McLeod, who had been director of the former Fort Frances-Rainy River board, came out from retirement to serve as acting director to maintain the day-to-day operations of the new board.
“It’s a relief to have this position permanently filled,” McBride said. “Of course, we’ve been blessed with having John McLeod as an interim director.”
Hoshizaki is not expected to be in Fort Frances for the Dec. 1 board meeting but should arrive here sometime that week.
“It will be about mid-December when he takes control,” McBride noted.
For McLeod, this means he’ll be able to return to his retirement–though not right away.
“I’ll spend a week or so with him before I leave,” he remarked. “Give him a chance to get to know the district.”
