The Christian Reformed Church in Emo will be hosting a homecoming weekend next Saturday and Sunday (July 12-13) in conjunction with its 50th anniversary celebrations.
Saturday’s activities will begin with breakfast from 9-11 a.m. Then there will be a welcome by the council and the dedication of five local trees—one for each decade.
“As a congregation, we have so much to give thanks for,” said Nick Schryvershof, chairman of the anniversary committee.
Refreshments will be available from 1:30-2:30 p.m.
For those who wish to walk off some of excess refreshments, there will be a nature walk available as well as a hay ride organized by Nick and Ann Veldhuisen.
A supper will start between 4:30-5 p.m., followed by a sing-along featuring musical groups, praise teams, etc. And with all the musical instruments combining with voices, it is hoped to close the day with praise to God.
Then on the Sunday at 10 a.m., a worship service “will be calling us to remember, praise, and give thanks,” said Schryvershof. Rev. Peter Vosteen, who was the pastor at the C.R.C. from 1959-62, will be the guest speake.
The homecoming celebrations then will close with a 7 p.m. service that evening led by Pastor Dave Lowe, assisted by Pastor Andrew Hall.
“We will bow and give thanks for the first 50 years and pray for guidance and help for the next 50,” said Schryvershof.
