Hawks win Emo Atom tourney

It was only fitting that two Emo teams crossed sticks in the ‘A’ final of the Emo-Devlin-Barwick Minor Hockey Association’s Atom tourney last weekend at the Emo Arena.
In what was a great game from the opening face-off to the final buzzer, the Emo Hawks edged the Emo Esso Leafs 1-0 on Matt Sigurdson’s goal at the six-minute mark of the first period.
DJ Mosbeck assisted on the goal.
The ‘B’ final, meanwhile, was just as exciting between Kenora Petro Canada and MEC (Fort Frances).
MEC hit the scoreboard first in the first when Taylor Dixon (Zachary Pocock) tallied. And that goal held up until just 15 seconds left in the game when Kenora’s Robbie Fisher (unassisted) netted the tying goal.
This meant a shoot-out, which Kenora eventually won when Joel Gordon tucked the puck past the MEC goal for the hard-fought 2-1 victory.
And in the ‘C’ final, the Kenora Norcom Lynx topped Kaemingh Esso (Fort Frances) by a 6-2 score thanks to five goals by Adrien Baker.
Derek Roy, assisted by Matthew Lunyk, and Max Madill, from Roy and Tucker Johnson, scored the Fort Frances goals.
Friday’s action saw the Emo Hawks beat Causeway (Fort Frances) 4-1, MEC blank Gillons’ (Fort Frances) 2-0, Kaemingh Esso tie Kenora Blue Esso 4-4, the Emo Leafs down Norcom Lynx 3-1, and Kenora Petro Canada dump Causeway 6-1.
Other games Friday saw Westfort nip MEC 2-1, the Emo Hawks whitewash Kenora Blue Esso 9-0, Gillons’ tie Kenora Norcom Lynx 2-2, the Emo Leafs beat Westfort 5-3, and Kenora Petro Canada dump Kaemingh Ess0 4-0.
