The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry wants to remind all hunters that concealing big game harvested without a tag is illegal.
On Oct. 22, 2017, conservation officers received a tip concerning a group of hunters exhibiting strange behaviour and blocking access to a road.
A member of the public called the ministry TIPS line after finding evidence of a moose harvest at the site after the group had left.
Officers investigated the tip and found evidence that a young bull moose was harvested by a group licensed to hunt calf moose only.
The moose was concealed and transported back to their residence where it was processed into quarters.
Three people from Wahnapitae pleaded guilty to multiple offences under the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act.
On Sept. 13, 2019, in Sudbury Provincial Offences Court, Richard Gladu pleaded guilty and was fined $1,500 for hunting big game without a licence.
He also pleaded guilty to possessing unlawfully killed wildlife and was fined $2,500.
In addition, Gladu received a one-year big game hunting licence suspension. Debbie Savard pleaded guilty to obstructing a conservation officer and received a suspended sentence.
Mitchel Savard pleaded guilty to possessing unlawfully killed wildlife and received a suspended sentence.
Conservation officers seized the moose and the firearm used to harvest the animal.
