Every November 16, Ontarians join the Métis people in commemorating Louis Riel Day and acknowledging his important historical legacy as a political leader, activist and champion of justice.
It is a day to honour Riel’s contributions to Canadian Confederation and to protecting the diverse history, culture and identity of the Métis people. His courageous defense of minority and language rights helped lay the groundwork for a more inclusive Ontario and Canada.”
I encourage all Ontarians to take the opportunity to learn more about Louis Riel’s place in history as a civil rights leader and the many historic and present-day contributions of Métis people to our province.
