The Country Treasurers Gift Shop, located at the Emo Inn, is now open to the public in the former conference room there.
Since purchasing the Emo Inn a few years ago, owners Brian and Pat MaGuire have thought about ways to utilize the space.
When the Back Alley Bar there was expanded, it cut off a sizeable portion of the conference room. And since it was used only sparingly anyway, the Maguires decided to try their hand at a gift shop.
The gift shop idea came to them through a concept they saw at a Crackel Barrel restaurant while travelling through the United States, which gave the couple a line in designing and decorating the Emo Inn.
“We looked around the town of Emo and made the decision,” they said. “This place needed a brand new dimension. And something like this would add to the tourist business, as well.
“There is quite a bit of excitement about this venture, ” they added. “You have to see it to believe how colourful and attractive the gifts are.”
While more inventory is still coming, what they have on hand now includes Jody Bergsma creations as well as buffalo horns taken from animals raised for food.
Each piece is handcrafted by KC Gifts, and has its own distinct shape and identification, making it a one-of-a-kind carving.
There is also china especially designed for all occasions, pottery, glassware, placemats, handpainted dishes, and baskets, as well as jewellery, candles, and a casual ladies’ clothing line called Dagoli from Vancouver.
