It was a blessing to have the GEMS girls’ club at the Christian Reformed Church participate in all phases of the worship service last Sunday.
Achievers’ leader Karen Koomans welcomed everyone to the program, then the girls took part, reciting their Litany 2000-2001. The theme for this year was “Danger Ahead–Join the Rescue Squad.”
The girls sang three choruses, incuding “I Believe God Will Use Me” and “The Gift of God.”
There are eight groups in the GEMS at different age levels, each with a qualified leader. They included:
•Explorers–Grace Hettinga, Brittany Jackson, Tiffany Marinaro, Rachel Hettinga, Teagan Kaemingh, and Kerrilyn Esselink;
•Advanced–Helen Cates, Leanne Kaemingh, Jolene Veldhuisen, Alicia Boven, Hannah Firth, Bethany Friesen, Kathryn Goodman, and Sarah Hettinga;
•Discovers–Grace Hettinga, Heidi Friesen, Brittany Olsen, and Rachel McBride;
•Observers–Kristine Kaemingh, Julia Roen, Meagon Kaemingh, Nicole Boven, and Phebee Firth;

The GEMS’ achivement day, attended by parents and friends, was held Tuesday, April 17 at the Christian Reformed Church. The girls were presented with achievement awards in different areas and promoted to the next group.
In the fellowship hall, the girls had on display their craftwork, etc. they had completed throughout the year’s sessions.
The GEMS then had their windup party at Lions Park this past Tuesday.
Craft leaders included Grace Hettinga, Lori-Ann Shortreed, Christine Bethune, Kristine Kaemingh, and Karen Koomans. And since the girls love to sing, Marie-Ann de Groot proved to be a valuable individual in this department.
Teachers Kristine Kaemingh, Corrine Webb, Karen Koomans, Cindy Kaemingh, Lori-Ann Shortreed, Grace Hettinga, and Helen Cates were reliable helpers.
And Helen Crans was great in preparing snacks for the group.
