Fuel leak being investigated

The Fort Frances Fire Department, CN, and Ministry of the Environment are investigating a possible diesel fuel leak which was reported here Saturday.
Fire Chief Steve Richardson said yesterday afternoon that somebody at the mill contacted the fire department after seeing fuel coming out of the town’s storm sewer pipe and into the creek running behind the mill office.
He noted it appears the fuel originated from the area on CN property on Central Avenue where a diesel fuel leak was first reported back in 1999, but this is still being determined.
“We’re still working with the local authorities to confirm what the situation is,” CN spokesperson Jim Feeny noted yesterday afternoon.
Chief Richardson stressed the amount of substance that came through the pipe is “undetermined,” but “not a lot.”
More details will be reported when they become available.
