Freeda Carmody, a retired elementary school teacher, is looking to be re-elected as a councillor in La Vallee.
She lives with her husband, Jim, and has two daughters, Cindy (Gary) Cain and Penney (Kirk) Bradley, as well as three grandchildren.
Carmody has lived in La Vallee all of her life. In fact, 30 years of her teaching career was spent at the Burriss and Cornerbrook schools.
She has been on council for 12 years and has experience working with several committees, such as the Rainy River Future Development Corp., the Rainy River Valley Safety Coalition, the handi-van committee, and the Rainy River District Municipal Association executive.
In addition, Carmody has been involved with the Healthy Communities Coalition, the doctor recruitment committee, school council, and the “Care Close to Home” campaign.
She wants to continue her work to make the township one where people want to live because of the excellent services they receive for their tax dollars—maintained roads, fire protection, seniors’ services, social opportunities, and educational opportunities.
Carmody knows it is important to continue to work to maintain and enhance the current levels of health care and services for the residents, and to ensure seniors have the necessary services available to them.
She wants to listen to the people and be an advocate for any concerns they may have.
If elected, Carmody will serve the people to the best of her ability and continue to work to make the community a better place to live.
