Four new forest fires were reported in the Northwest Region as of yesterday.
Fort Frances Fire #12 was confirmed yesterday afternoon about six km east of Irene Lake.
Covering 0.1 of a hectare, it was not yet under control at last report.
Red Lake Fire #34 was confirmed yesterday morning near the south shore of Pikangikum Lake, about four km east of the community of Pikangikum.
It was listed as “being held” at 0.7 hectares.
Red Lake Fire #35, meanwhile, was located on the north side of Pikangikum First Nation and covered 0.5 of a hectare in size.
FireRangers were on site.
And Sioux Lookout Fire #12 was reported on an island north of the community of Wunnummin Lake.
It covered 0.1 of a hectare and was not yet under control at last report.
The forest fire hazard generally is “high” across the region, with some areas that were showing an “extreme” hazard earlier yesterday afternoon.
Similar conditions were expected for today.
