Four new fires erupt

the MNR

Until yesterday afternoon, there had not been a new fire confirmed in the Northwest Region since May 29.
By the time this report was prepared June 3, however, four new fires were confirmed in Dryden District.
Dryden Fires #14, #15, #16, and #17 all occurred in the Henderson Loop area off Highway 655, commonly referred to as the Richan Road.
These four fires all were human-caused and range in size from 0.1-0.2 ha.
FireRangers were on scene and actioning these small fires, with no problems anticipated.
Meanwhile, the forest fire hazard will increase over the next seven days based on the weather forecast.
The hazard is “low to moderate” for areas such as Fort Frances, Kenora, Sioux Narrows, Dryden, Lac Seul, Ear Falls, Sioux Lookout, Rainy River, Atikokan, Ignace, and Thunder Bay, as well as the north shore of Lake Superior.
The hazard in the far north, however, continues to climb into “high” as little precipitation has occurred there.
And pockets of “extreme” forest fire hazard are developing in the very far north.
