Four fires in region

One new fire was confirmed in the Northwest Region by yesterday afternoon.
Red Lake Fire #39, a 0.2-hectare blaze located about nine km southeast of Pikangikum, was listed as “not under control” at last report.
Several lightning-caused fires also emerged during the evening hours of Saturday in the far north of Sioux Lookout District.
Sioux Lookout Fire #19 has claimed 100 hectares at a remote location south of Sachigo Lake.
Thirteen km to the south, Sioux Lookout Fire #20 has grown to six ha in size.
Both of these fires were listed as “under observation.”
Red Lake Fire #38, discovered southeast of North Spirit Lake, has grown to 280 ha in size as it moves away from the community.
The fire hazard currently is “low” in parts of the Fort Frances, Dryden, Thunder Bay, and Nipigon Districts.
A band of “moderate” hazard extends from the Kenora District moving northeast through the middle of the region.
Red Lake District, along with the far north portions of the Sioux Lookout and Nipigon districts, show a “high” to “extreme” hazard.
