Former resident Elizabeth Adam (nee Klug) returned to Emo last week to hold a book signing at Knox United Church.
For an hour-and-a-half Thursday afternoon, and another 90 minutes that, Adam met friends and members of the community as they arrived, offered them tea, coffee, and dainties, and spoke to them about her new book, “Mother Love—Portraits of Its Power.”
Adam’s book is about “the transformation, the passion, the pain, the joy, the meaning of mother love.”
As she interviewed women about their birth experiences, Adam kept hearing the phrases, “I can’t put it into words” and “There are no words for it.”
Even though she felt she would have a great deal of trouble expressing the depth of the experiences and emotions of these women, Adam felt compelled to write about her own experience and those of the women she met.
“Mother Love” is a book about how becoming a mother changes a woman’s heart.
As Adam states on the back cover, “When a woman becomes a mother, the love that comes into her life, changes her forever.”
Adam first came up with the idea for her book in October, 2004, when she was inspired by a book written by Debra Rienstra called “Great With Child—On Becoming a Mother.”
The more she reflected on her own experiences and the more she talked to other young mothers, the more she felt obligated to write about how the birth of her first born child changed her life forever.
Judy Letain, founder of Hope Ministries and author of “Mistaken Identity,” after reading Adam’s book, wrote, “Through real-life experiences, Elizabeth unveils the indescribable beauty of a mother’s heart and valuable treasure found in mother love.”
Adam is pleased and grateful for the support she’s been given by her home community of Emo. There were a lot of smiles and hugs as she greeted old friends from across the district.
“The turnout was pretty steady,” she remarked. “I am pleased with the sales and seeing everyone again was great.”
Adam’s book, “Mother Love—Portraits of Its Power,” can be purchased at Betty’s and Northwoods Gallery & Gift in Fort Frances, from her parents in Emo, or from her website Elizabethadam.com (which soon will be up and running).
Adam will be having an “official” book launch April 16 in Winnipeg.
Following the launch, she will be on a book tour, speaking to mothers in Saskatoon, Edmonton, Kamloops, and Medicine Hat.
Then on Mother’s Day, Adam will be speaking in Brandon, Man. to 800 military wives whose husbands have been deployed to Afghanistan.
“Mother Love” definitely is a book for mothers of all ages.
“This book is written from both the heart and the mind. It will speak into the soul, instilling the strength that motherhood both produces and requires.”
