Five people were killed in a single-vehicle accident early Saturday evening northwest of Sioux Lookout.
Police said a GMC Terrain SUV was northbound on Slate Falls Road around 7 p.m. when it left the roadway and entered the Brokenmouth River about 15 km south of Slate Falls First Nation.
The vehicle was recovered from the river around 10 a.m. yesterday and five people were found deceased inside.
The victims were identified as Kimberly Whiskeyjack, 23, of Sioux Lookout, Gordon Carpenter, 55, of Slate Falls First Nation, John Bighead, 23, of Slate Falls First Nation, Samantha Loon, 26, of Slate Falls First Nation, and Claudia Loon, 20, of Slate Falls First Nation.
Post-mortems are scheduled to take place in Kenora.
The accident remains under investigation.
