FITS queen pageant needs contestants

Anyone interested in participating in this year’s “Fun in the Sun” queen pageant has until this Friday (May 5) to register with organizers.
“We have one girl actually signed up and two others still looking for sponsors,” organizer Melissa Gushulak noted Tuesday afternoon.
“The deadline is Friday but I may extend until Sunday,” she added.
Anyone interested in participating in the pageant should contact either Gushulak at 274-5206 or last year’s royalty (Queen Sara DeGagne, First Princess Jenna Cousineau, and Second Princess Brittany Hayes) at Fort Frances High School.
A minimum of four contestants must be registered by the deadline or the event will have to be cancelled, Gushulak stressed.
Contestants are eligible if they are between 15-19 years of age as of May 1, 2006, have a sponsor, and will be available to participate in community events throughout the next year (up to July 1, 2007).
Gushulak wanted to line up the contestants earlier than usual this year in order to get them involved in more activities prior to the July 1 crowning.
Contestants will be involved in delivering “Meals on Wheels,” a garage and bake sale, spaghetti supper, button sales, an entertainment night, designing their own banners, a car wash, the Fort Frances Public Library’s annual Teddy Bear Picnic, kids’ activities and a bake sale for the BIA’s “Mall Day,” a picnic basket auction, and the Canada Day parade.
Gushulak said the pageant requires “much commitment from the girls but is a great experience.”
“You get to be really involved with the community and meet several new people of all ages,” she noted.
Anyone with questions is encouraged to call Gushulak at 274-5206 and leave a message.
