First impressions are of the utmost importance.
So you can expect the six contestants in this year’s “Fun in the Sun” queen pageant to be on their best behaviour tomorrow at a garage and bake sale—the first of many events leading up to the Canada Day crowning.
Ashley Bombay, Kristine Bruyere, Jenna Cousineau, Sara DeGagne, Brittany Hayes, and Nikita Mansbridge will be on hand for the sale, which runs from 8 a.m.-noon at the Ukrainian Hall.
Dawn Booth, one of the three pageant organizers, said earlier this week she expects the sale will have something for everyone.
“There’ll be lots of different items,” she noted. “All the girls will bring in items for the garage sale, as well as bake sale items, so there will be lots of things there.”
All proceeds raised at tomorrow’s sale will go towards providing scholarships to the eventual FITS queen and two princesses.
Last year, pageant winner Alyssa Bruyere received a $1,500 scholarship, with the First and Second Princess earning a cheque for $750 and $500, respectively, to help offset the cost of their post-secondary education.
Booth said they would like to award the same amounts to this year’s top three.
With all six teens busy studying and writing exams at Fort High next week, the next event for the contestants will be a car wash tentatively scheduled for Friday, June 24.
They also will be participating in Scott Street’s 100th birthday celebrations next Saturday (June 25).
