FITS contestants still being sought Deadline to register this Friday

Organizers are actively seeking teen girls to participate in the 2005 Fun in the Sun queen pageant.
And the clock is ticking, stressed Dawn Booth, who is co-organizing this year’s pageant with Melissa Gushulak and Cheryl Hoard.
“The deadline to sign up is this Friday [May 27],” she noted. “We’ll be making a decision this Friday as to whether we’re going to go ahead with it this year.
“If we wait any longer than this Friday, it’s crunch time. It just doesn’t work out if we have to rush things,” Booth said, adding they’ll need at least five or six contestants to make it worthwhile to stage the pageant.
As in previous years, participants must be girls aged 15 and 19 and residents of Rainy River District.
They also must be able to commit to participating in various events throughout the year should they win the crown, or the title of First or Second Princess.
If the pageant goes ahead, the queen contestants will be required to sell buttons and to take part in a variety of events and activities, including the Strawberry Social, Teddy Bear’s Picnic, Mini-Queen pageant, and Canada Day parade, as well as participating in the entertainment night and crowning on July 1.
Participants will be rewarded for their efforts with various scholarships and prizes, as well as the title of “Miss Fun in the Sun.” Details for prizes still are being worked out.
Last year saw five contestants vying for the crown, which was won by Alyssa Bruyere. Shana Morrison was named First Princess and Erika Johnson as Second Princess.
Those interested in becoming involved this year can pick up an entry form at the Fort Frances Chamber of Commerce office (across from Safeway), or contact Bruyere or Morrison at Fort Frances High School.
In other news, Booth said the Chamber of Commerce and Fort Frances Canadian Bass Championship are working out details regarding the always-popular “Quest for the Best.”
The public should expect to hear details about the annual singing contest, such as when they can pick up entry forms, by next week.
