It’s becoming a well-known fact that when a supper is held at the Devlin Hall, the attendance is overwhelming. And that fact was proved once again this past Sunday afternoon and evening.
The second-annual Mother’s Day fish fry took place, made possible by the Crossroads School community rink project executive plus a lot of volunteers and donations.
More than 300 people attended this event, enjoying delicious walleye, beans, home-cut French fries, buns, and so on—right to the grand finale of homemade pie (generously donated by locals).
Raves were heard over and over as the meal was enjoyed. The large group of men frying the fish continuously put out one dinner after another.
Several plants also were drawn for Sunday, with the lucky winners taking home a beautiful hanger to brighten their summer decor.
I was extremely impressed with the youth who helped clean tables and then set them up again, filled cream and sugar bowls, and just pitched in wherever they were needed.
A special thank you to Laura and Lindsey Richardson and Ashley Nordstrom, who worked diligently, making us “older” folks’ job a lot easier.
Joe Bodnar and his committee would like to thank all the volunteers who helped with this event, and also thank all the people who donated food items.
The next fundraising event is the ball tournament slated July 27-29. The next rink meeting will be held tomorrow (May 15) at 7 p.m. upstairs at the municipal office.

Sincere sympathy is extended to the family and friends of Mel Hyatt, who passed away Sunday. He had undergone surgery Friday in Winnipeg.
Mel’s health had been failing for quite some time but still his family is facing a great loss. I hope they gain strength knowing your community is thinking of you, and holding you in our hearts and prayers at this time.

The second-annual “Grandstand Jam” will be held July 1 at the Emo Grandstand and the committee already is searching for contestants aged eight-19.
Registration forms are available at Sight & Sound, Village Variety, Tompkins Hardware, KGB Sports in Rainy River, and Dalseg’s in Nestor Falls.
This is a great opportunity for young people to share their talent, plus to gain confidence and poise in themselves.

Robin’s 2¢:
Mary and Jane are old friends. They have both been married to their husbands for a long time. Mary is upset because she thinks her husband doesn’t find her attractive anymore.
“As I get older, he doesn’t bother to look at me!” Mary cries.
“I’m so sorry for you. As I get older, my husband says I get more beautiful every day,” replied Jane.
To which Mary added, “Yes, but your husband’s an antique dealer!”
