Fish fry a huge success

I could hear the happiness in Joe Bodnar’s voice as I talked to him Monday evening regarding the Mother’s Day fish fry that was held Sunday at the Devlin Hall.
Almost 300 fish dinners were served during this event, which was a fundraiser for the Crossroads community rink project.
Perhaps one reason for the great turnout was because it was Mother’s Day, but I also like to think it’s because many people would like to see the community rink become a reality.
From the reports I’ve heard, the fish fry was great. It was an afternoon and evening of visiting and getting together with friends and family.
Joe would like to thank the many volunteers who helped in so many ways. And I say hats off to the Crossroads community rink committee who saw the fish fry through from the beginning stages until the last dish was put away.

Speaking of the Crossroads community rink project, its next raffle will be drawn June 22 at the Devlin ball diamond. Three great prizes are up for grabs, including a 24’x32’ garage package (valued at $6,000), a gazebo ($1,949), and $500 in cash.
Tickets cost $5 each, and only 3,000 have been printed. They are available at Dev-Lynne’s, Greensides, the municipal office, and committee members.

I had the opportunity to attend and volunteer for some of the World Health Organization’s safe communities conference that was held in Rainy River District last weekend. It certainly was an event I’ll never forget.
It was remarkable to see and meet many people from around the world. It also was very touching to see our own district be designated a “safe community” (only the third one in Canada).
Many people worked long and hard to see this event through and you all deserve a big round of applause!

The annual T.O.P.S. salad supper is coming up Monday, May 27 at the Devlin Hall starting at 7 p.m. Tickets cost $7 for adults, and are available from T.O.P.S. members.
