No new fires were reported in the West Fire Region yesterday.
As well, the number of active fires dropped from 25 to 22 as of this morning.
These include 12 in Nipigon District, nine in Sioux Lookout District, and one in Thunder Bay District.
Since April 1, the region has seen a total of 147 fires, which have consumed 6,704.8 hectares to date.
Only seven of these blazes have occurred in Fort Frances District.
Scattered thundershowers over the weekend dropped the fire hazard to “low” or “moderate” across the region.
The week is expected to start slow thanks to the wet weather over the weekend.
But as the forest dries, the Ministry of Natural Resources expects some hold-over lightning fires to begin popping up throughout the region.
