Only one new fire was confirmed in the Northwest Region over the Labour Day weekend.
Fort Frances Fire #20, located on Rainy Lake near Goose Island, was a 0.1-hectare, lightning-caused fire first confirmed Sunday.
It is now “out.”
The Ministry of Natural Resources said the forest fire situation is very quiet across Northwestern Ontario for now due to the rainfall experienced over the last few days.
The forest fire hazard remains “low” for all of Northwestern Ontario and little fire activity is anticipated for the next few days.
There are 16 active fires in the Northwest Region, nearly all of which are listed as “being monitored.”
None of these fires are posing any risk to people or properties, and all are displaying minimal fire behaviour and little smoke.
