Fire scene still quiet

There were no new fires in the Northwest Region between Sept. 30 and this morning, and no active wildfires.
Red Lake Fire #33, a lightning-caused blaze that started Sept. 26 about 50 km southwest of Red Lake, was declared “out” yesterday at 0.1 hectares in size.
Kenora Fire #18, meanwhile, was a human-caused recreation fire that started on the afternoon of Sept. 29.
It was declared “out” the following day at 0.1 hectares in size.
In related news, three prescribed burns were ignited Sept. 27, including at Confederation Lake in the Red Lake District.
The other two—Moose Creek and Horse Lake—were in Sioux Lookout District.
The Confederation Lake burn, located about 90 km northeast of Red Lake, is 220 hectares in size and classed as “being held.”
The Moose Creek burn, located about 75 km northeast of Sioux Lookout, was “under control” at 200 ha in size.
And the Horse Lake burn is a 620-ha project area located 45 km north of Sioux Lookout.
Roughly 160 ha of blowdown was ignited and burned within the project area.
Cloud cover, rain, and cooler temperatures are forecast for the region over the next few days.
