One new fire was reported in the Northwest Region yesterday, and another possible one being checked out.
Nipigon Fire #14, located in the northern sector of Nipigon District at Ogoki Post, was reported yesterday morning and declared out the same day.
Thunder Bay Fire #22 remains the only active fire in the region at this time.
Classed as “under control” at 1,317 hectares, mop-up continues on hotspots in the fire as is demobilization of resources from the scene.
Meanwhile, Ontario’s aid to Alberta forest fire suppression continues this week with another 102 fire staff planned for departure tomorrow (June 1).
Currently 190 Ontario personnel are in Alberta but 85 will be returning to Ontario this week.
This exchange will result in just over 200 provincial fire staff remaining in Alberta as Ontario’s support enters its third week.
