Fire scene stays quiet

the MNRF

The region’s fire scene was quiet over the long weekend.
No new fires were reported yesterday or Sunday, and just one new fire reported on Saturday—a 0.1-hectare blaze that spread into the grass from a brush fire located in Grassy Narrows (Kenora District).
That fire was declared “out” within the day.
The forest fire hazard is “low” across most of the region, except the northern areas of Sioux Lookout and Nipigon districts, where it ranges from “low” to “high.”
FireRangers in Fort Frances District took advantage of the quiet fire scene to do some good work cleaning up years of accumulated trash at a vehicle pullover at the south end of Highway 502.
A fire manager noted that over the years, the pullover seemed to be a dumping ground for all types of trash and was a highly-visible eyesore.
Taking the initiative, a Fort Frances FireRanger crew removed garbage from the site and took it to a local landfill.
After the clean-up, a total of 750 kilograms of garbage was removed from along the roadside and ditch.
