The fire scene is heating up.
Fort Frances District, which is classified as having a “high” forest fire hazard, saw a pair of fires over the past couple of days.
A 0.1-hectare, human-caused blaze was reported yesterday just south of Highway 11, near Nigigoonsiminikaaning First Nation (Rainy Lake 26A).
It is now “out.”
There also was a 0.5-ha, human-caused fire up Highway 71, west of Beadle Lake, on Tuesday.
The district has seen a total of five fires so far this year.
The others included human-caused fires on March 21 (0.1 ha), April 13 (0.1 ha), and April 14 (0.2 ha).
The public is reminded that during fire season (April 1-Oct. 31), burning can begin no sooner than two hours before sunset.
It must be extinguished no later than two hours after sunrise.
