The forest fire hazard in the Northwest Region currently is “moderate,” but it is expected to rise throughout the week.
One new fire was reported in the region by yesterday evening.
Red Lake Fire #7—a human-caused blaze—is now “out” at 0.1 hectares in size.
Meanwhile, there were two active fires in the region as of press time today.
Fire crews continued to make good progress containing Kenora Fire #18 and by day’s end yesterday, all road restrictions connected to this fire were expected to end.
But Red Lake Fire #3, which also straddles the Ontario-Manitoba boundary, remains listed as “not under control.”
This blaze has been mapped at 75,000 ha in total.
The Ontario portion of the fire is located in Woodland Caribou Provincial Park, and Ontario Parks cautions people to avoid the southwest portion of the park while suppression action is underway.
People are advised to check with the park office for updates and information on possible route or access closures.
Residents also are reminded that a Restricted Fire Zone remains in place in the Northwest Region, except for the far north.
