The fire hazard currently is “moderate” in the western sectors of the Northwest Region.
But with the weather forecast to be sunny heading throughout the weekend, the fire hazard is predicted to reach “high” as a result.
There currently are 34 active fires in the region, with 26 of those listed as “being monitored” and showing no fire activity.
There is ongoing fire activity through all of the districts in the region, with the exception of the Kenora District, which currently has no active fires.
Fort Frances District continues to have nine active fires, all of which are listed as “being observed” in Quetico Provincial Park.
The most recent of these is a 0.5-hectare, lightning-caused blaze reported back on Sept. 15.
Since April 1, the region has recorded 877 fires, charring an area of 630,199 hectares.
In related news, hunting season has arrived and FireRangers are taking extra caution to wear their orange uniform shirts to let their presence be known as they work on fires in the bush.
Hunters are asked to be alert to firefighting activity as they travel through the forested areas.

While out hunting and camping, people are reminded to keep their campfire and shore lunch fire small, build it on bare rock or dirt, never leave it unattended, and make sure it is dead out before leaving.
