Fire crews clear trees

FireRanger crews in Thunder Bay and Dryden districts are helping area provincial parks with the clearing of downed and hazardous trees.
High winds yesterday slowed progress of crews assisting in the clean-up.
Crews in other parts of the region continue with ongoing training and other assigned duties.
Kenora District continues to monitor Kenora Fire #22 at 0.1 hectares in size on Lake of Woods.
Fort Frances District, meanwhile, continues to monitor Fort Frances Fire #8 at 0.6 hectares in size. It is a prescribed fire within Quetico Provincial Park.
Red Lake Fire #7 is a lightning-caused fire currently classed as being “observed.” It is a 270-ha blaze located in the far northern portion of the district.
Sioux Lookout Fire #15 is a 1.5-ha lightning-caused blaze in the far northern portion of that district.
None of these active fires pose a threat to values.
Day burning of brush or grass is not allowed under the Forest Fires Prevention Act of Ontario.
Burning of brush or grass should be done no sooner than two hours before sunset and it must be put it out no later than two hours after sunrise.
Choose a safe site, keep your fire small, and never leave it unattended. Remember to ensure the fire is put dead out before leaving the site.
