‘Festive R.I.D.E.’ nabs two

A total of 442 vehicles were stopped at OPP roadside checkpoints across Rainy River District during the first week of the annual Festive R.I.D.E. initiative.
As a result, police charged two people with impaired driving offences and issued one 12-hour suspension. Two Liquor Licence Act charges also were laid.
R.I.D.E. programs will continue to be in full operation across the district as Week 2 of the campaign begins today.
The OPP would like to remind all people to plan ahead if they are attending a Christmas party or an event where alcohol is being served. Make sure you have a designated driver, take a taxi, or stay overnight.
The public also is encouraged to contact police at 1-888-310-1122, or by cell phone at *OPP, if they suspect someone is operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol.
