‘Festive R.I.D.E.’ in full swing

For the first three weeks of the annual “Festive R.I.D.E.” campaign, a total of 1,201 vehicles have been stopped at OPP roadside checkpoints across Rainy River District.
During that time, police have charged four people with alcohol-related driving offences.
Police also have issued two 12-hour licence suspensions and laid nine charges under various provincial statutes and the Criminal Code.
R.I.D.E. programs will continue to be in full operation across the district for the rest of the holiday season.
The OPP would like to remind all people to plan ahead if they are attending a Christmas party or an event where alcohol is being served. Make sure to have a designated driver, take a taxi, or stay overnight.
The public also is encouraged to call police at 1-888-310-1122 or by cell phone at *OPP if they suspect someone is operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol.
The OPP would like to wish everyone a safe and happy holiday.
