The Emo-La Vallee-Chapple Healthy Communities Coalition invites you to come out and celebrate Family Day.
Events will take place Monday, Feb. 20 from noon-4 p.m. at the Emo-La Vallee Community Centre.
A family skate will take place from noon-2 p.m., followed by shinny hockey from 2-4 p.m. (helmets and gloves are mandatory).
Movies, games, and snacks also will be available throughout the event.
The events are free and everyone is welcome to attend.

The next men’s breakfast meeting is set for this Saturday (Feb. 18) starting at 8 a.m. at the Emo Legion.
The featured speaker this month is Lawrence McAllister from Steinbach, Man.
McAllister, at 92 years old, is a man with a vibrant personality, an energetic spirit, a passion for life, an enthusiastic desire to bless others, and an intense love for Jesus.
He served in World War II—from September, 1940 to June, 1945—on a destroyer in the North Atlantic, escorting convoys through submarine-infested waters.
His job when the ship was under attack was being in charge of reloading guns. Having seen many men die, McAllister admits he will never know the answer to the question: “Why them, why not me?”
McAllister is honoured to wear the uniform and the Maple Leaf, honouring the men and women who gave their lives for our freedom.
McAllister later was educated as a mining engineer at Dalhousie University and graduated in May, 1953. He wanted to get into engineering because of his love for the outdoors and rocks.
He completed the final step of his engineering degree 58 years later because after completing university, he immediately was whisked off to work at a gypsom mine disaster in northern Cape Breton, thus forfeiting the honour of participation in his engineering “ring ceremony” until November, 2011, when he was formerly recognized for his accomplishment.
In 1955, “Mr. Mac” (as he is affectionately known) began serving with CSSM Ministries as provincial director of the Atlantic branch, eventually becoming the national director and serving with CSSM for 30 years.
He has been a member of the Gideon’s for 66 years, distributing Bibles to thousands of people.

The Emo and District Lions Club will host its second-annual “Farmers Night” on Saturday, March 24 at the Barwick Hall, with tickets costing $25 each.
The evening will include dinner, a cash bar, and draw prizes donated by local businesses and national sponsors. Everyone will go home with a prize!
Tickets are available from any club members or by calling 482-3788, with proceeds going towards projects in Rainy River District.
Watch for posters around town, and remind friends and relatives to mark March 24 on their calendars.
Those interested are encouraged to get their tickets early.

Once again a large crowd was on hand to listen to the presentations and updates from the pupil accommodation review committee looking into the future of Donald Young School here in Emo.
Pastor Conrad Dueck, speaking on behalf of the Emo Ministerial Association, outlined in detail the importance of DYS to the Christian programs provided by the various churches of Emo.
The fourth and final public meeting of the committee is slated for Wednesday, March 7.
