Fall fair offers something for all

The Rainy River Valley Agricultural Society’s annual fall fair takes place Aug. 17-19 at the Emo fairgrounds.
There is something for everyone at this event, including 4-H exhibits, the loggers’ competition, a huge midway, stock car racing, the steer auction, and, of course, lots of delicious food.
One always-poplar event is the crowning of the fair queen, along with the mini-king and queen, which takes place tomorrow evening (Aug. 17) upstairs at the Emo-La Vallee Arena.
As well, the pancake breakfast will be back in full force this year. Sponsored by the Borderland Racing Association, it will be served beginning at 7:30 a.m. at the food booth by the grandstand.
And don’t forget Molly Crozier will have her Canada centennial afghan on display at the exhibition hall during the fair.
Be sure to come out and view her beautiful work!

Happy 80th birthday wishes to Bill McLean, who celebrated with a party Sunday afternoon at his home.
Your community wishes you many more years of great health.

Congratulations to Peter Gerber and Denise Gerber, who were wed on July 27.
The proud parents are Abraham and Petra Gerber and Cindy and Arnold Kaemingh.

Congratulations to Bill Godin and Leroy Wilson for capturing the annual Kenora Bass International tournament on Saturday for the second time!

Sympathy to the family and friends of Grace Roy, who passed away on Aug. 7.
Grace was a kind, considerate women and our paths often crossed through family connections. I remember seeing her and her husband, George, out “coffeeing” many times and I always enjoyed their company.
Grace have me her many “costumes” she had wore at curling bonspiels, and I was very touched by this. I think she knew in her heart that few people were as apt to dress up and be a “little out there” than me and her.
She will be greatly missed but certainly not forgotten.

Sympathy, as well, to the family and friends of Deb Greenier.
Many of us will remember Deb from school. She has many family members and high school friends still in our district.
We extend our condolences to all who are faced with this sad loss.
