The Rainy River Valley Agricultural Society has decided to seek public input into ways to increase attendance and interest in the annual Fall Fair in Emo.
At its general meeting Jan. 13, board member Gary Judson, who also sits on Emo council, proposed the RRVAS consider bringing back parimutuel wagering to the agricultural extravaganza in August.
He also suggested bringing back the rodeo.
Both events had been part of the fair at one time, but were discontinued several years ago.
The RRVAS reported last year’s fair was a success despite a slight drop in attendance. The logging competition, as usual, was a big hit.
The current “mad cow” crisis did not appear to adversely impact the cattle shows and auctions, and the other livestock displays also did well.
The fair board’s executive and directors will remain as last year, with Joyce Meyers staying on as president while Bill James and James Gibson continue as the first and second vice-presidents, respectively.
Rounding out the board of directors are Marlin Carr, Jan Halvorsen, Harold Kellar, James Teeple, Nicole Brumwell, Lois Caul, Candy Greengrass, Cecil Ogden, Julia Teeple, Shirley Teeple, and Judson.
The RRVAS currently is seeking new members to fill the four remaining vacancies on the board, which meets every second Tuesday of the month.
