Extreme cyclist to speak at breakfast

Dave Ogilvie

This month’s men’s breakfast meeting will take place on Saturday (Nov. 19) starting at 8 a.m. at the Emo Legion.
The $10 buffet will feature Arvid Loewen as the guest speaker.
The 54-year-old grandfather recently set the record for biking across Canada, travelling from Vancouver to Halifax in an astounding 13 days, six hours, and 13 minutes.
Loewen’s record of biking the 6,000-odd km from coast to coast has been verified by the Guinness Book of World Records.
Hailing from Winnipeg, the grandfather of three slept for only two hours most nights in order to set this unbelievable record.
A number of years ago, Loewen left a successful, well-paying management position to fundraise on a full-time voluntary basis for a charity called Mully Children’s Family.
The organization, a non-profit, non-political, non-governmental Christian organization, was founded by Dr. Charles Mulli and his wife, Esther. The purpose of their work is to rehabilitate street children from across Kenya.
Over the past 20 years, MCF staff successfully has helped 6,000 children grow up in a safe, family-type environment. At present, they are caring for more than 2,000 boys and girls between the ages of one week and 24 years.
Loewen, a contemporary “Faith Hero,” has a remarkable story to share that will bless and challenge the men of the district.
Plan on attending, bring a friend, and be prepared to be amazed and encouraged by this extraordinary athlete and grandfather.
