Given the ethnic diversity in the Borderland area, the Citizens for Backus/AB has decided to showcase the cuisine from more than 15 nations during its Ethnic Food Festival tomorrow (March 27).
The event, being held from 5-8 p.m. at the Backus Community Center in International Falls, will feature a wide variety of fare for sampling, such as corn beef and cabbage at the Irish booth, tamales at the Mexican booth, onion soup and French bread at French booth, and black forest cake at the German booth.
The delicious cuisine will be complemented by an assortment of wine, beer, and soft drinks available at a cash bar.
A number of community members are participating in the event by donating the cooking skills and recipes to share.
There also will be live music and ethnic decorations to set the stage for the festival—and some of the food presenters even will don native costumes.
Other nations that will be represented at the festival include Italy, Korea, Ukraine, Middle East, Sweden, and China.
But there will be about 20 different food stations offering food from these countries for people to enjoy.
Sampling tickets will be available at the door for $1 each or 12 for $10.
Proceeds from the food festival will go towards the Backus roof campaign.
