Esso Leafs ground Hawks

It was an all-Emo final at a 12-team Atom ‘A’ hockey tournament here last weekend.
The Esso Leafs, who had finished in fourth place after round-robin play, prevailed in the ‘A’ final with a 6-2 win over the Emo Hawks.
Billy Barker led the Leafs’ attack with a hat trick.
The Esso Leafs had knocked off the first-place Safeway Devils in one ‘A’ semi-final while the Hawks, who finished third after round-robin play, upended the second-place West End Bruins (Thunder Bay) in the other.
The ‘B’ final saw Kenora Red Esso nip the Dryden Ducks 3-2.
Red Esso advanced to the final by knocking off the Norcom Lynx (Kenora) in one semi-final while Dryden upended Gillons’ Sharks (Fort Frances) in the other.
The Sharks were the top Fort Frances team after the round-robin portion, finishing in fifth-place overall.
And the ‘C’ final had the MEC Bulldogs (Fort Frances) skate away with a narrow 3-2 victory over the North End Stars (Thunder Bay).
The Bulldogs, who were seeded 10th after the round-robin, beat 11th-place Esso (Fort Frances) in their semi-final match while the Stars eliminated 12th-place Causeway (Fort Frances) in the other one.
