A planned power outage lasted longer than expected yesterday thanks to an unexpected equipment failure.
The outage was supposed to be for six hours—from 7 a.m.-1 p.m.—but ended up lasting until after 4 p.m.
As the Hydro One maintenance crew was finishing its work, and preparing to bring customers back online at the expected time, they encountered a faulty switch that needed to be repaired.
Hydro One spokesperson Tiziana Baccega Rosa said this unexpected repair delayed the restoration of power by several hours.
“They literally went to turn everyone back on and encountered the switch that malfunctioned, and had to repair that so they could bring everyone back on,” she explained.
