Equipment failure cause of outage

More than 3,600 Hydro One customers across the district experienced a power interruption for about two hours last night after a lightning arrestor failed at Hydro One’s Crozier distribution station.
Hydro One said 3,652 customers from Crozier to Rainy River lost power at 6:37 p.m. Of those, 3,294 had power restored by 8:37 p.m. while the balance of 358 customers had power back by 9:15 p.m.
“It happens—not frequently—but it does happen from time to time,” a Hydro One media rep said this morning of the equipment failure.
“We inspect the equipment on a regular basis, but sometimes these failures can happen out of the blue,” he added.
