Voyageurs National Park is offering a weekend of special programs this Saturday and Sunday (Aug. 18-19) to encourage everyone to get out and enjoy the lakes.
Many programs are free of charge, but reservations are encouraged.
Events on Saturday include the North Canoe Voyage on Kabetogama Lake
from 9:30-11:30 a.m.
Paddle into the past aboard a 26-foot long north canoe, and learn the lore of the fur trade from a pair of voyageurs.
This free trip departs from the Kabetogama Lake Visitor Center.
The minimum age is five years old and is limited to 10 participants.
Meanwhile, the Lost Bay Adventure Tour is slated Saturday from 1:30-4:30 p.m. Revel in the beauty of Kabetogama Lake while cruising past islands to Lost Bay.
This tour includes a hike into the park’s backcountry to Agnes Lake—a small but scenic lake in the park’s wild interior.
Hiking shoes, bug spray, and long pants are recommended. Reservations are encouraged by calling 1-888-381-2873.
The cost is $20 (U.S.) for adults and $15 for children.
As well, from 2-3 p.m., join a park guide to discover how the lands and waters of Voyageurs National Park have provided a home for communities of people and wildlife over the years.
Meet at the Woodenfrog Beach near the State Forest Campground. Admission is free.
Events on Sunday will include a free morning canoe trip from 9-11 a.m. (weather permitting).
Enjoy a tranquil canoe trip on Kabetogama Lake while keeping an eye out for wildlife. We provide lessons, paddles, canoes, and lifejackets.
Meet at the Woodenfrog State Forest launch ramp. The minimum age is five years old and we recommend participants know how to swim.

Meanwhile, a Locator Lake Canoe Adventure is slated from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Join park guides for an all-day adventure in the backcountry of the Kabetogama Peninsula.
This special tour includes a boat tour ride from the Kabetogama Lake Visitor Center to the Locator Lake trailhead. Enjoy a pleasant two-mile hike along a well-established trail to scenic Locator Lake, where loons and the occasional moose are spotted!
Three canoes and two rowboats will be available for you to explore this backcountry lake and enjoy the wild destination.
Then hike the two miles back to Kabetogama Lake to meet the tour boat for the return cruise to the visitor center.
Hiking shoes, bug spray, ample drinking water, and a picnic lunch are recommended.
This one-time-only cruise is limited to 20 passengers. No fee is required but reservations are strongly encouraged by calling 1-888-381-2873.
