The Common Room at the Golden Age Manor was decorated with pink, white, and blue balloons on Sunday afternoon in celebration of Mary Luckie’s 80th birthday.
The one-layer decorated cake sported eight candles—one for each decade—plus two sparkling ones with the figures 80 on them.
Although Mary blew all the regular candles out on her first try, these last two would not go out. It took a minute to know why, then she just smiled.
The party was organized by Cheryl Hagen and family as a tribute to Mary being a friend of the Hagen family for years. Cheryl welcomed the roughly 60 guests who attended the come-and-go event.
Mary was pinned with a velvet white rose that matched her pink dress.
She had been born in Czechoslovakia in 1922 but came to Canada with her family when she was eight years old (1930). She lived and worked for many years in Winnipeg and Fort Frances, moving to Emo to live at the Golden Age Manor in 1985.
Mary has many interests and hobbies, including quilting, sewing, gardening, cooking, and spending time with her friends.
She also loves to travel—having taken trips to Europe, Australia, South America, and Hawaii. She certainly has acquired many great memories over the past 80 years.
