Emo Tweens strike ringette gold

Two Emo ringette teams, the Tweens and Belles, visited Atikokan for a tournament that also feature teams from Dryden and Thunder Bay.
Carlee Bosma and her Tween squad took up right where they left off last year—coming home with the gold medal.
In their first game against host Atikokan, the Emo Bandits grabbed a 3-0 halftime lead on Bosma’s hat trick.
Bosma and Heather Williams then scored in the second half to ice the 5-0 victory.
It was no contest in their second game versus Dryden, scoring 10 times in the first half en route to an easy 16-2 romp.
Bosma once again led the way with 10 games, including six in the opening half. Rylee Nixon addd a hat trick while Nikki Smith tallied twice. Shanna Ewald also scored for Emo.
Dayna Olson netted both goals for Dryden.
The championship final between the Bandits and host Atikokan ended in exactly the same score as their first outing (5-0). Only this time, five different Bandits—Bosma, Heather Williams, Nixon, Sarah Hoskins, and Jaycey Ewald—hit the twine.
Bandits coach Debbie Carlson was proud of her girls, saying they pretty well did everything right, using speed, skills, and just being at the right place at the right time.
Meanwhile, the Belles had a tough time trying to get any kind of play going their way. In their first game, Thunder Bay jumped out to a 6-0 lead, then added eight more goals in the second half for a 14-1 victory.
Malarie Woolsey netted Emo’s lone marker.
Then against Dryden, Sarah Marusyk gave the Bandits a 1-0 lead after the first half. But Emo could only score one goal in the second half (by Mandy Lahti) while Dryden tallied four times for a 4-2 win.
The Bandits then played Dryden again but this time came out on the short end of a 5-0 score.
Dryden wound up winning the tournament with an overtime victory over Thunder Bay, with host Atikokan finishing third.
Coach Carlson noted both Emo goalies, Chrissy Jewell (Tweens) and Megan Bob (Belles), did an excellent job.
