Emo seeking town crier for centennial

Hear ye! Hear ye! The Emo Centennial committee is looking for a town crier!
As far back as the Middle Ages, many towns had someone who yelled out the public announcements contest while wandering the streets.
Sort of a like a newspaper on two legs.
Well, the committee wants to recreate the town crier for the various centennial events planned next year and will be approaching individuals who would fit the bill–or trousers so to speak.
The person will have to have a strong voice, enthusiasm, and be willing to wear a town crier costume designed by the committee.
In other centennial news, four different refrigerator magnets have been designed for Emo’s 100th birthday, including:
•a depiction of the “Keenora,” the riverboat many settlers rode from Rat Portage (Kenora) to Rainy River District;
•the “Keenora” coming into Emo’s river dock, which stood where the Lion’s Park is now situated;
•a homemade Christmas postcard made in 1909 showing the wooden bridge on the old highway coming from east to the riverfront before the main highway was built; and
•Emo’s Front Street photographed in 1930.
These special collectibles cost $2 each, and are available at the Emo Inn, Gillons’, Visser Auto, and the public library.
Meanwhile, a centennial recipe book is being compiled from members of the Community.
Do you have a special recipe that has been in your family for generations? If so, drop it off at either of the municipal office, Fairway Store, or Cloverleaf Grocery before Jan. 30.
Emo’s centennial committee meets every Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the municipal office. Evening meetings will be held there the last Tuesday of every month at 7:30 p.m. to discuss centennial plans.
