The Emo Rockets racked up 28 goals in a Novice tournament last weekend but fell short by two in the ‘A’ final.
Rockets’ coach Shane McDonald was impressed with his players, saying they all worked hard and had no problem hitting the net.
In their first game Saturday morning, the Rockets exploded for six first-period goals to drub the KFD Hounds 8-3. Kurtis Hill led the way with a hat trick, followed by Ryan Kaemingh (two), James Saunders, Matthew Sigurdson, and Carlee Bosma.
Jon Sinclair scored all three goals for KFD.
On Saturday afternoon, the Rockets kept up their winning ways by downing the Kenora Petro Can Sabres 5-2 on goals by five different players–Kaemingh, Hill, Saunders, Sigurdson, and Bosma.
Ben Edie and Jordan Walters replied for the Sabres.
A five-goal outburst in the second period Sunday morning gave the Rockets their third victory–a 7-2 win over the KFC Colonels.
Hill paced Emo with four goals, with Sigurdson added two and Justin Donaldson the other. Cam Cranton notched both KFC markers.
In the semi-finals later Sunday, the Rockets escaped with a narrow 4-3 victory over the Dryden Leafs.
Hill netted a pair, including the game-winner with five minutes left in the game. Saunders and Kaemingh also scored for Emo while Eli Napish tallied all three goals for Dryden.
Then in the final against Red Lion, Emo had taken a 3-2 lead after one but then was outscored 4-2 in the second to fall 6-5 (the third period was scoreless).
Mathew McDonald scored twice for the Rockets, with Saunders, Hill, and Kaemingh adding singles. Mitchell Chagnon netted five of the six Lions’ goals.
“It was perfect tournament,” said coach McDonald. “The team’s offence didn’t miss a beat.”
Another Emo Novice team also was involved in this tourney but no results were available from the coaches of the OPP.
