Emo, Rainy River hospitals get new nurse managers

Following the retirement of Norma Elliott, Riverside Health Care Facilities Inc. has hired two new nurse managers for the Emo and Rainy River Health Centres.
Tammy McNally took over the reins at the Rainy River hospital earlier this month while Edith Bodnar of Alberton will be in charge at Emo once renovations are complete and its doors open again in January.
“I’m definitely looking forward to it,” said Bodnar, who has been nurse for some 30 years and currently is acting as nursing supervisor at La Verendrye hospital in Fort Frances.
“It will be a bit of a change,” she admitted. But most of all, Bodnar said she is looking forward to working in the newly-renovated hospital for long-term care patients.
“It should be wonderful for staff, patients, and their families if it’s anything like Rainy River,” she remarked.
McNally could not be reached for comment by press time.
While Elliott was kept very busy managing both sites for many years, Liz Clark, assistant executive director of patient services, said Riverside has changed the role a little to make it more manageable to better serve staff and patients.
Whereas Elliott’s position use to have many hospital services besides nurses report to her (such as laundry), Clark said that’s changed and these new nursing management positions will be more focused on resident care at the separate facilities.
“It’s important to have a managerial presence on-site to be there on a daily basis,” she noted.
