Emo pucksters mark Minor Hockey Week

Minor Hockey Week was celebrated at the Emo-La Vallee Community Centre this past week with all divisions in action.
In PeeWee play, the Emo Cobras hosted the Kentucky Colonels (Fort Frances), but it was the visitors who skated away with a 4-1 win.
Devon Ball (from Matt Boven) had put the Cobras on the scoreboard midway through the first period, but Dakota Sisco (Justin Anderson) knotted the game four minutes later.
Then two minutes later, Darrel Bombay (Michael Jourdain) put the Colonels ahead for good. Justin Rose (Bombay) and Jason Rose later netted insurance markers to seal the win.
It was a better outcome for the Cobras in their second game, earning a 9-2 victory over the Pinewood Blades.
Curtis Hill led the victors with five goals while Ball (two), Keith McTavish, and James Saunders rounded out the scoring. Danielle Gibson and Dianne Jourdain replied for the Blades.
Meanwhile, the Emo Thunderbolts battled the Lions (Fort Frances) to a 3-3 draw.
Jordan Meyers (Colin Kaemingh) hit the twine for Emo first, then Kaemingh put the Thunderbolts up 2-0 a minute later. That awoke the Lions from their slumber, with David Chambers scoring two goals just two minutes apart to tie the game.
Justin Donaldson gave Emo a 3-2 lead at the eight-minute mark, but the roared back once again as Andrew Gobeil (Miles Kakeeway) knotted the score, which held up for the rest of the game.
In Bantam action, the Emo Stars had little trouble downing the visiting K-9’s (Fort Frances) by a 3-1 score.
Terry Carmody (Chris Strachan) opened the scoring in the first before Darcy Arden evened the count before the period ended.
Then after a scoreless second period, Ryan Witherspoon (Andrew Friesen) put the Stars out front for good. Carmody later netted his second of the game (from Strachan and McTavish) to ice the win.
It was a different story for the Emo Predators, however, who came out on the short end of a 4-1 decision to the Oddfellows (Fort Frances).
The Fort crew led 2-1 after one on markers by Matt Beck and Steven Beck (John Monahan). But after Michael Badiuk (Matt Beecham) got the Predators within one, the rest of the game belonged to the visitors.
Beck netted his second and third goals of the game, assisted by Dayton Brown and Monahan, respectively, rounded out the scoring.
And in Midget action, the Emo Cowboys won both their games against Fort Frances teams last week.
Craig McTavish had a hat trick to lead the Cowboys to a 7-5 victory in their first game, with Travis Wolframe and Ryan Mutz added singles (Emo’s two other goal scorers were not listed).
Gill, Starling, Allan, Wreggitt, and Roehrig replied for the visitors.
The Cowboys then earned a 4-1 victory in their second game on goals by Nathan DeBungie (two), Travis Wolframe, and Tyson Quibell. Kurtis Carlson (Paul Dobransky) netted the lone goal for the visitors.
