The third in a series of “Threat Assessment Training” took place at Emo Legion yesterday and today (May 17-18).
Retired OPP Insp. Mark Allen was the instructor as 42 community workers took part in the session.
One more session will take place tomorrow and Friday (May 19-20) at La Place Rendez-Vous in Fort Frances.
By the end of the program on Friday, more than 200 people will have been trained in the area of threat assessment.
Graduates of the program will know how to determine whether an individual who makes threats poses a risk to the identified target or targets.
This valuable training will enable community workers from across the district to respond to potential threats long before these issues become a actual crisis.
The program has been offered in the district thanks to a Safe Schools Grant through the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services.

This month’s men’s breakfast meeting will be held on Saturday (May 21) at the Emo Legion starting at 8 a.m.
The buffet breakfast, which only costs $10, is an excellent chance to meet with men from across the district.
The featured speaker will be Dr. Phil Whatley of Emo, who has a missionary background.
The title of his talk is “Appetites.”
Those who attend no doubt will be blessed and enriched as Dr. Whatley shares his insights into the specific needs of men.

The Rainy River District Women’s Institute is hosting its annual spring tea this Friday (May 20) from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at Knox United Church in Emo.
There will be soup, sandwiches, desserts, and coffee/tea, as well as bake tables and a door prize.
Admission is $7, with proceeds to go towards supporting the W.I. Museum in Emo.
Come out for a great lunch, meet with friends, and support the women in preserving and presenting the history of our district.

The Township of Emo has declared Saturday, June 4 as “Community Garage Sale Day.”
