OPP officer Ken Jasper and cadet Jason Sobkowicz were at the Emo-La Vallee Community Centre last Wednesday helping kids to understand bike safety.
About 20 kids, ranging from toddlers to Grade 6 students, were informed about how to use hand signals—and that you always use your left hand only when doing so.
They also were told about using their front brake for stopping. Speaking from experience, eight-year-old Kazia Veldhuisen informed them what would happen if you did (you’ll go over the handle bars).
After each child had completed the course, they were treated to pizza courtesy of the Village Variety and served by Family Resource Centre co-ordinator Laurel Armstrong.
There also were three door prizes for helmets courtesy of Tompkins Hardware, with the lucky winners being Sam Jackson, Noah VanHeyst, and Carter Kinnear.
This event was organized by Armstrong and Cora Chojko-Bolec, health educator with the Northwestern Health Unit.
