The Township of Emo’s Canada Day celebrations held at Emo-LaVallee Community Centre had approximately 60 people in attendance.
Children’s games were the centre of attraction, as the inflatable Bouncin’ Good Times, Tot-Tanic slide and Unicorn Bouncer kept them active, as did face painting and taking a whack at a cnady-filled pinãta.
Of course, the smaller ones had more fun driving toy vehicles around the arena floor.
There were enough volunteers around to keep everyone hopping and kids happy. BBQ hamburgers and hot doggies were on the grill, as well as canned soft drinks and coffee to quench your thirst.
Council staff Brenda Cooke was busy with the BBQ and Amanda Quaker served as waitress. The kitchen staff included Coun. Harriett Sheloff and helpers Jim and Gloria Sheloff.
There also was a decorated Canada Day cake that was dished out by Reeve Russ Fortier and his granddaughter Aime Fortier, who was visiting from California. She looked after the ice cream bucket.
Aime never in her wild imagination ever thought she’d be a volunteer far from home. But she enjoyed every minute and kept up with grandpa Russ.
There was a package of candy for each child, and this came in handy. No one went away hungry—the price was right so why not have a light supper out.
At 7 p.m., the Grandstand Jam was held. At 9:30 p.m., the fireworks lit up the sky for about twenty minutes. There was no missing this spectacular display of different designs–some terrific bangs.
For a little town in the middle of the district, it did a remarkable job with so much else taking place from one end of the district to the other.
