Emo council holds monthly meeting

The Ontario Realty Corp. is inquiring as to whether the Municipality of Emo would be interested in purchasing the property on Tyrell Street (OPP housing), council learned at its regular monthly meeting Nov. 13.
“We will look at all avenues,” noted Reeve Fortier, adding the municipality may look at the property in question after all else is exhausted.
In other news, Reeve Fortier will attend a meeting Thursday in Fort Frances to discuss the proposed district jail/remand centre to be located there.
Meanwhile, Emo council designated the Emo Cowboys hockey tournament Jan. 18-19, 2002 as a “community festival,” provided that liquor permits are applied for as age of majority as per the policy of the Emo/La Vallee Community Centre board.
Council also agreed to support a resolution from the Township of North Huron in its efforts to petition the provincial government to enact legislation that would permit municipal councils to pass a bylaw to prohibit certain breeds of dogs from being housed or boarded within its boundaries.
And Emo council agreed to support a resolution by the City of Toronto in its efforts to request the provincial and federal governments to suspend collecting PST and/or GST on all clothing items below $75 and school supplies below $20, including Canadian books, at least twice a year.
Reeve Fortier told council that hydro is in at the athletic field, adding we should see work on the property come to life shortly.
He noted there’s also been adjustments completed to the field map where the various areas of sports will be located.
Finally, council approved the purchase of a double-walled fuel oil tank to replace the existing one at the water treatment plant to meet safety requirements.
